These days students are getting more smarter then anybody and coming up with ingenious ideas to save our environment in a savvy manner. Just day before yesterday I penned down about a dozen of students who came up this ethanol powered Datinol to zoom on the concrete paths and today we have yet another bunch of students who have won honors for their concept – World’s first solar speedboat. Capturing the sun’s free energy, the students from Delft Technical University built the original platform as an entry for 2006 Nuon Frisian Solar challenge. A winner entry that it was, it has attracted serious investment power from Rabobank to get a full scale test boat built. Dubbed as the Czeers MK1 Solar Speedboat, this speeding beauty gets its fuel from one of the most abundant energy found on the seas that is Sun. Crafted from 100% carbon fiber and inlaid with leather trim, its isn’t surprising to find every inch of this power boat to be covered with photovoltaic cells on the surface that is. This boat’s 80kw electric engine is powered by the electric battery as the 10-meter boat manages to pack in 14 square meters of solar panels. Affixed with a LCD touch-screen control system this zooming green baby was launched at the Millionaire Fair in 2007, and has since proven itself up to 30 knots on the water. 
Though the price tag of this eco-friendly speedy isn’t mentioned, I’m sure if you want to own it; you’d have to shell out loads of green bills as price is strictly on request. Via Gizmowatch
