Eco Factor: Homes made using recycled shipping containers.
ContainerHomes is currently working with several NGOs to provide emergency shelters for displaced people in earthquake-hit Haiti. Traditionally tents have been used for the same, but shipping container homes offer a much safer and an economically sound solution.
The company is creating emergency shelters using heavy gauge steel shipping containers found in most ports around the world, which can withstand 145mph winds. The 40-foot-long container home can house between 12-20 people in bunk beds. Each unit features a kitchen, bathroom, electricity, plumbing, windows and doors to provide a more comfortable and dignified living space than tent shelters.
