Great news for the diabetics tired of taking insulin to stay well. The old saying, ‘a glass of milk a day keeps us healthy’ takes a step further, now with the creation of four cloned and genetically modified calves which are capable of producing human insulin in their milk! Now, a glass of milk can keep that extra sugar in our body away.
In generating the technology to produce pharmaceutical products from cow’s milk, scientists have inserted the human gene for insulin into an embryo, followed by its implanting into a surrogate mother cow.
The newborn Jersey heifers seem to not just relief one for taking insulin, but would definitely cut the cost of treating diabetes. Doesn’t it sound interesting and useful a discovery. The cloned cows are named Patagonia 1, 2, 3 and 4.
But, I should also tell you that you would not get the insulin-rich milk on the shelves immediately. Continue with the dosages of insulin until they start producing the human hormone reaching adulthood, Bio Sidus is the biotechnology company behind the project.
Managing director Marcelo Criscuolo, adding that insulin produced by cows would be at least 30 percent cheaper said,
This model of a genetically modified cow is a model that allows us to produce large quantities of products at very low cost.
But, what’s more to see is, will the insulin-producing pharmaceutical companies allow the insulin-rich milk reach the market shelves and take over their huge market economy?
