It is a new electric vehicle charger from Clipper Creek, the producers of EV chargers. The most novel thing about this charger is that it is the smallest charging device for electric vehicles.
Measuring only 28cm x 10 cm, the LCS-25 requires only an hour or two to install. Now, this could be a welcome solution for all the EV owners out there. Because installing an electric vehicle charger is quite complex and a time consuming process. It is also very costly. According to a latest survey conducted by SPX Service Solutions which installs chargers for Chevy Volt, a majority of their customers have access to 240V electric systems. However above 75% of them still do not have a charging outlet of high voltage near their parking location, such as a garage or driveway. Having a high-voltage line is necessary to install an EV charger. That would mean that customers would need additional circuitry to be installed, thus making installation charges shoot higher.
A brand new LCS-25 will cost $995. However its installation charges are yet to be declared. Anyone having an electric vehicle can use this charger including the owners of Nissan Leaf, Wheego LiFe and Chevy Volt. One of the most amazing things about this charger is that there will remain no need to call a certified electrician to install it.
However, the most potent challenge that Clipper Creek would be facing is the expectation of people which can never be quenched. Being the driver of an electric vehicle and lured with the luxury of the smallest charger, the first thing you would expect would be the facility to charge your vehicle even on the driveway. It would be good to see how this desire can be quenched.
