Eco Factor: Sustainable design maximizes sunlight and uses recycled aluminum.
Scandinavian architectural firm C.F.Architects’ master plan proposal has won a design competition for a new housing district in Gothenburg, Sweden. Called “Harbor Stone,” the plan aims at transformation of an area dominated with industrial buildings and shipyards into a large scale business district dotted with small scale urban spaces.
The master plan envisages 10 buildings of varying sizes in a total area of 70,000 m2 with a landmark 22-story-high tower. While the buildings are designed in a manner that maximizes sunlight, their facades are built from recycled aluminum. The use of public landscaped stairs and thoroughfares creates a micro climate with sheltered spaces that offer splendid views of the harbor.
