Camp Fire 2050: Lighting up instant magic for a tech-savvy vacation!

‘Kiderlite’ is a gadget that is intended to demonstrate how incompetent most of us would get with outdoor living and camping by the year 2050 as we get pampered by a tech-savvy world where everything is instantly available at the switch of a button. In other words, it is to create a simple and easy campfire for all of us without too much fuss or work. It lights up the special moment in an instant and if there are any forests left in 2050, we can probably go camping with this. Otherwise, we can just light it up in our own backyard!

As a project for the Museum of Modern Britain’s (MOMB) 2050 retrospective exhibition that looks back on the years 2008 – 2038 Philip John Luscombe from the Northumbria University’s School of Design, has created the ‘Kinderlite’ disposable campfire.

It looks like the invention would make building a campfire an almost instant process. Just prop a few nice straight sticks into the central ‘spoke’ part, hang the cardboard carton, which likely contains kindling and other flammable fire starting substances, and light what looks to me to be a ‘fuse’. Like everything in future, this seems compact, convenient and instant. But I dearly hope we never get to this point and this just stays as an exhibit.
