steam powered gramophone

This gramophone sounds unique in its qualities! The strange-looking machine, built by Geoff Hudspith, took two years for its designing and can play his collection of old 78 rpm records. The gramophone contributes towards the environment by being made out of scrap metal and powered by steam.

A hand pump and an injector helps in feeding the machine with water, which turns to steam and sent to the engine for powering a flywheel that moves the turntable. The gramophone’s turntable is made from an HMV machine and the pickup arm from a 1922 Winner model. It is powered by a single-cylinder steam engine fired by a paraffin boiler.

A dumped HMV accessory, the enormous horn is restored to its original green color. It lets out steam, produced during its playing.
