The power of nature never fails to stun the creative mind and help them negotiate new dimensions of resourceful justice. Designers like Jeroen Verhoeven seems to use this creativity to create fantasies that play with practical elements and unfolds a visual treat allowing the viewer an insight into the untold green possibilities in the horizon. Verhoeven’s new creation called the Virtue of Blue Chandelier has bridged the practical sustainability with natural co-existence. It is made of blue butterflies snuggled up close and is nothing more than an solar light fixture but the visual treat takes the entire concept of going green to a different level.

Jeroen Verhoeven, the celebrated Dutch artist and designer, is conducting his first solo exhibition in the London Gallery named Virtue of Blue, 2010. The exhibits include a mysterious blue chandelier assembled from 502 solar panel cells molded into shapes of four different varieties of butterfly. The chandelier piece combines highly skilled craftsmanship with complex processes making it self-sustaining in the sense that the wings of the butterflies absorbs the sun light during the day to power the hand blown glass bulb within its coterie. The beauty of the cluster of these blue butterflies surpasses its utility making it almost a part of nature.

This eco-chandelier measures 144 x 144 x 162 mm in size and is composed of cesium solar cells, a hand-blown glass bulb, and steel and aluminum structural elements.
