The trend in modern architecture is to state as much as possible with as little as possible. Extensive designs are built using simple basic structures and repeating them in a regular fashion. ‘Minimalism’ has taken hold of structures across the globe and it is mostly glass, wood and stone in black, white and gray that seem to be the building materials. Considering that, the latest design by French architect Matali Crasset is a refreshing novelty indeed. Dubbed as Le Nichoir (The Birdhouse- in French, this beautiful retreat is full of green goodness indeed!
Part of a series of designs that the architect wishes to create, the Birdhouse is set in Lorraine part of France and is nestled in beautiful forest area. The surroundings are tranquil and offer everyone a wonderful opportunity to relax and rejuvenate. It is a perfect spot to pamper your senses and escape the city rush with the Porch swing that invites you with warmth.
The main structure itself is a two-story design that houses a kitchen space for wood-burning stove, a few rugs and tables and does not encourage unnecessary excesses. Toilet and water facilities are found outside the structure. With the Birdhouse standing tall on stilts, not only do you feel closer to the forest canopy but the surroundings and vegetation underneath are undisturbed.
For those who love the night sky and sleeping under the stars, the terrace should make for an ideal setting as the sun sets on Lorraine. With construction technique that employs local wood along with steel reinforcement for strength, the structure has minimal negative impact on its surroundings. Imagine a lovely weekend for four in the Birdhouse, where you escape the mundane and experience the joy of living an uncomplicated and natural lifestyle.
