Eco Factor: Eco-friendly camp stove generates electricity from waste heat.

According to recent statistics, over 1.6 million people are killed each year by inhaling toxic smoke from indoor cooking fires. Moreover, burning wood in an inefficient stove results in toxic fumes that waft up into the atmosphere. BioLite has unveiled a new Camp Stove that pollutes less, is highly-efficient and surprisingly, it can charge your portable electronic gadgets as well.

The stove burns pretty much anything that you can toss into it, uses half the fuel as a regular fire and boils water faster than conventional petroleum fuel camp stoves. The stove features an onboard thermoelectric generator that converts heat into electricity to power a small fan that improves combustion efficiency and can power handheld devices through a USB port.

The company claims that the stove reduces emissions by up to 95 percent, which keeps the environment clean. Weighing in at a pound and a half, the stove will be available sometime later this year at a price of $80. For the developing world, a larger version will also be made available that will retail for just $50.
