Here I wonder how can I get to my work (daily) or that far away beach resort for a relaxing weekend without pinching my car-fuel budget. With an array of alternative energy options in market or still in conceptual stage, I still am not too confident to switch over for those green options. But these folks at Solar Flight are oozing with green confidence and are moving much ahead of all of us. Intending to be the first to circumnavigate the globe by solar power, they are inspired by airships from the past that were safely capable of flying long distances with limited power plants. Dubbed as Sunship, it is designed to be as small as possible, but large enough to cross the Atlantic and Pacific oceans!
Unlike blimps which rely on internal pressure to maintain their shape, their design is a rigid airship, of the Zeppelin design. Intended to comfortably carry 3 people at lower altitudes, 2 people to medium altitudes, and one person at high altitudes, it is expected to break the current altitude record for airships of 24,000 ft.
Well I am not rich nor qualified to get involved in this project……but I definitely don’t mind a ride on it!
