Eco Factor: Dwelling plan uses sustainable design to save energy.
Safari Drive by Miller Hull has been certified by the Scottsdale’s Green Building Program for Multi-Family Dwellings. The self sustaining project makes for a vibrant mixed use urban neighborhood that combines residential units with commercial functions. Designed in response to Arizona’s desert climate the project judiciously uses thermal mass, deep overhangs, high performance thermal envelope and natural weathering to maintain appropriate levels of cooling and heating inside thereby reducing energy consumption.
The plan features a cooling tower to enable passive cooling of the public courtyard with a simple, wind-driven technology borrowed from middle-east. The dwellings have been constructed using locally available natural material hence saving a lot again in terms of transportation costs.
