Eco Factor: Concept encourages individuals to recycle old cell phones.

It isn’t uncommon to come across people who can’t bear the thought of relinquishing their outdated mobile sets simply because of the invaluable data it holds. The digital memory contains personal information in the form of text messages, pictures, videos etc. which makes it harder for them to dispose off their cell phones. Irish designer Sadhbh Doherty has grafted an ingenious device called ‘Arcque’ which would not only make it easier for mobile users to get rid of their old sets by returning them back to their manufacturer for recycling, but also get a bead in return, which would help them store their phones digital memory.

The ‘Arcque’ is a bead shaped gadget made from pulverized circuit boards, while its center piece which comes either in gold or silver is crafted from copper found inside the phone. The bead contains a memory chip, a Bluetooth chip from the phone and a kinetic motor which gets powered by shaking. One can access digital memory from the bead using a blue tooth enabled device.
