Eco Factor: Device uses solar energy to purify collected rainwater.
With over a billion people in the world lacking access to safe drinking water, several industrial designers have taken up the task to develop eco-friendly low-cost water purifiers that can be used in rural parts of the world. The AquaRing by designers Yana Tzanov, Elisa Makela, Stephanie Sauve and Olga Losak hopes to quench the thirst of millions by harvesting rainwater.
Rainwater is definitely one of the purest forms of water, however since the air around isn’t quite pure, rainwater too includes pollutants. The AquaRing answers both the problems by first harvesting rainwater and then using the SODIS process (solar water disinfection) to provide potable water. The device can also reduce the number of plastic water bottles that are sent to the landfills each year.
