With the invention of a system called Aquacart, capable of removing toxic organic contaminants from waste water, people around the world can avail pollution-free water. Dr Nigel W Brown has won an Award for Innovation — by the Royal Society of Chemistry Process Technology Group — for inventing the system.
Making use of a new material — Nyex — Brown’s Aquacart system can remove harmful compounds from sewage and waste water using a process — activated carbon adsorption. It is a technique being used in kitchen water filters.
The environment-friendliness of the material lies not only with its service, but also with itself for being able to be used again, as it has a high electrical conductivity that allows fast, effective and cheap regeneration of its electrochemical processes.
