Anna Konda: Water-powered robotic firefighter

anna konda the robotic firefighter

It moves like a snake and fights fire! It is another Anna Konda – not another fiction-writer’s imagination. But, the ‘real’ 3 m long and 70 kg snake is developed by SINTEF in Norway.

It is a robotic snake — containing 20 water hydraulic motors to help move the robotic joints. The snake is powered – not by batteries and fossil fuels – but by water pressurized to 100 bars. The water is already provided inside the fire hose.

This environment-friendly water-powered robot can climb up stairs, lift a car up off the ground or even break through a wall! Thus, it could not only replace humans in fighting dangerous fires, but could also operate in the sub-sea regions or in preventing explosions.
