AnL Studio recycles shipping containers for OceanScope observatory

Eco Factor: Observatory made using recycled materials.

AnL Studio have completed a unique observatory in Incheon, South Korea, which has been made from recycled materials including shipping containers. Called OceanScope, the structure features three shipping containers that are supported at angels of 10, 30 and 50 degrees to allow visitors to ascend inside them and watch the sunset over the harbor.

Recycling shipping containers is nothing new in Korea, as they’re already being used widely as temporary shelters in many rural areas. However, other users of these commercial metal-boxes is limited to just ecofriendly houses. The OceanScope, on the other hand, is an initiative from the Mayor of Incheon City, which has the biggest harbod in Korea and is aiming to find unused containers’ potential as structures for public use.
