Since the Japanese government has long been asking phone makers to be more active in encouraging their collection and reuse, Plaza Create from Japan came up with the idea of developing and launching a disposable camera recycled from dead mobile spare parts. The new cameras are expected to be an effective way of reusing the phones’ LCD panels. The users will be able to choose whether they want to save the image they have taken by first viewing it on the LCD screen.
Priced at ¥1,280 for the 27-exposure camera and ¥1,480 for the 50-exposure, they will soon hit the stores. The company plans to sell the cameras at its 1,200 print shops across the nation and also intends to incorporate more recycled material parts in the camera, such as lenses, in the future.
Only 13 percent of 50 million used phones recycled during 2006. If this camera succeeds in Japan, it would certainly bring a lot of changes worldwide.
