AMP to supply 1,000 all-electric Mercedes-Benz ML 350s to Northern Lights Energy

It was only yesterday when we talked about how total power capacity from renewable sources has just overtaken world’s overall nuclear power output. But Iceland is a nation whose 80 percent energy already comes from clean, renewable sources, such as geothermal and hydro power. And to notch up yet another level of sustainability, around 1,000 all-electric Mercedes-Benz ML 350s (all of them converted) will be delivered to Northern Lights Energy, an Icelandic company oriented with renewable energy related technology.

AMP, the world renowned EV conversion company, struck a green deal with NLE last month, which entailed the delivery of 1000 fully converted electric Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUVs to the icy roads of Iceland. The cars are touted to be worth more than $100 million, and the deal itself is seen as a major stepping stone for AMP to extend its sphere of influence in the Nordic (and even the whole European) zone. NLE itself plans to begin selling converted SUVs models, including AMP’s Chevrolet Equinox EVs, in Iceland and other Nordic countries.

The first of the converted vehicles was presented to Gisli Gislason, chairman and CEO of Northern Lights Energy, at a press conference at Amp’s facility in Cincinnati, while the bulk of them are expected to be shipped from September. Gisli Gislason said:

We were very excited to receive and drive the AMP Mercedes ML EV today. The vehicle drove extremely well, and I feel will fit perfectly in our Iceland program. We have fifty Icelandic companies and government offices, including the Ministry of the Environment, signed up to host electric vehicle charging and to convert their fleets to 100% electric vehicles and their expectations are high. In my opinion, this AMP EV will meet and exceed all expectations.
