An Inconvenient Truth, the big-screen adaptation of former U.S. Vice President Al Gore’s slide-show lecture about the perils of global warming, won Academy Awards for Best Documentary and Best Original Song.

The award went to director and producers Lawrence Bender (“Pulp Fiction”) and Laurie David, the environmentalist wife of “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David.

Getting the honor at the first ‘green’ Academy Awards, Gore said:

People all over the world, we need to solve the climate crisis. It’s not a political issue, it’s a moral issue. We have everything we need to get started with the possible will to act. That is a renewable resource. Let’s renew it.

In the film Gore attempts to convince us that the Earth’s atmosphere is warming and that, unless we drastically reduce CO2 emissions by cutting back on fossil fuel combustion, etc., we will do permanent damage to our planet.
