Mention Africa and two things come to my mind instantly – rain forests and varied wildlife. Though part of Africa is arid and desert, Ghana falls in the tropical rainforest belt and is best known for its natural greenery. However to enhance its greenness, the Concept Ghana, a development group based in Ghana, has a project to design the Augustino Neto Condominiums. Estimated to sell for a whopping tag of $300,000 for each unit, this project utilizes green building products and sustainable materials such as bamboo, adobe plaster, recycled oil drums, and the combination of local sedimentous soils, waste palm kernels, and Portland cement. 
Located in Accra, the capital city of Ghana, about 25 unites in all will be erected. However since the area is close to airport, tackling the noise pollution is not easy. The solution is using special material called Pozzo Ghana to reduce the jet-engine noise. 
Even the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge in Zambia successfully implements sustainable concept and vernacular architecture into a modern building by making the best of locally available resources to address local needs. It is the best example of a construciton that had adopted vernacular architecture and adapted it in a modern building. So now eco-conscious travelers know which place to hit when traveling to Africa!
