The “Bento” is a solar-powered concept computing system designed by US-based product designer Rene Lee. The modular system integrates a notebook, tablet computer and a smartphone into a single package, which helps in expanding the possibilities of networked use of the product, while maintaining the portability of each component.

The basic structure of the computing system includes a 15-inch OLED screen that offers enough space to accommodate a tablet computer, a smartphone, battery and a 1TB hard drive. The sustainable computing device features integrated solar panels that are used to recharge the onboard lithium-ion battery. Once fully charged, the tablet computer and the smartphone can be removed from the computing system and used independently. Since al the components have been designed as separate entities, the different displays offered in the system can be used for different purposes according to the user’s need.

The modular nature of the device also allows the user to make use of multiple hard drives to store content. The stored content can be easily transferred from one device to another by simply docking the two devices in place. This unique configuration also ensures that individual components can be upgraded without replacing the entire system.
