Kinetic energy can be considered as one the basic iterations of the ‘primeval’ mechanical energy, which is derived by the motional attribute of any body. This theoretically cleanest form of energy is omnipresent in every earthly system (by virtue of its potential energy), and thus can be utilized by various techniques for optimum power conversion. Product designer Joe Mattley has exactly done by contriving a kinetic energy charger that can be used to power up a myriad of small devices such as mobiles phones, flashlights and even digital cameras.
Named as the FREEcharge, this charger incorporates a magnetic system for clean electricity generation. This effective sliding magnet induces a 2500 turn copper coil (in a solenoid form) to produce the resultant electricity. The movement of the magnet in turn is governed by the motion of the whole contraption, thus kinetic energy being utilized in the process to be converted to electrical energy. During testing phase, the whole system was assayed numerous times to make the prototype as efficacious as possible.
The portability of the conception along with its non-requirement of any type of power outlet makes it apt for people on the move. According to the designer, his invention will cater to a particular segment of customers like hikers, adventurers and outdoor campers. Moreover, being completely regulated to zero carbon emission, the charger also makes its ‘green’ mark on the sustainable side of affairs.
