5 vehicles which can also power your home with stored energy

Power for homes

Global warming is taking its toll on the environment. Due to the visible effects of global warming all over the world, people are considering to use green technologies instead of using technologies that are dangerous to the environment. People are trying to find more and more eco-friendly technologies for protecting the environment. The electric vehicle is one such technology that utilizes electricity instead of the fossil fuels like petrol, diesel, etc for powering the vehicles. The electric vehicles are charged with the help of plug-ins at the home but now manufacturers are trying to find ways in which the stored energy of the vehicle can be used for powering the homes also. Here is a description of five electric vehicles, which can power your home with their stored energy.

1. Nissan says electric car can power family home

Manufacturers of Nissan’s Leaf are looking forward to add more utility to the electric vehicle by adding a technology, which can power a home if there is a blackout. Therefore, if you are planning to buy Nissan Leaf, you can be safe from electricity outages. There is no more sitting in the dark or reaching out for the generator. The battery can store about 24 kilowatt of current. This means that it has enough power for an average household for one full day. The engineers of Watanabe are trying to give a shape to this concept, which can be expected by the end of this year.

2. Mitsubishi Power your home with your EV

When the police of UK are getting ready to use the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, it has another compelling use too. Yes, it can power your home in the absence of electricity. The aftermath of the Tsunami recently in Japan saw instances of electricity unavailability. In order to bring some relief to such situations, Mitsubishi is getting ready to introduce the new vehicles that can power your home using the batteries. The company has decided to release the product one year earlier than planned initially. According to the company, the 16-kilowatt battery can provide uninterrupted electricity to an average household for about one and half days. The device will also have one 100-watt AC outlet for delivering about 15 amps that can power appliances like washing machines. The vehicles are being specifically manufactured for usage during emergencies.

3. Toyota EV or PHEV cars

Toyota housing is building an experimental house that may have the possibility of being powered by any electric vehicle especially, during emergencies. The new houses will be equipped with rechargeable batteries, photovoltaic cells, heat-pump based water heater, energy management systems, and LED lighting. These homes are named as “Since Smart Stage” and are designed to be eco-friendly with the least carbon footprint possible. They can run smoothly even during power outages because they may be able to utilize the energy provided by the electric vehicles.

4. Gridcharger by Robert Marvin

If you are looking for the next generation high performance vehicle, then the Gridcharger is the way to go. The futuristic car has been designed by Robert Marvin. The family vehicle has a clean and silent function and runs on four electric motors. Four people can be seated in a diamond pattern. You can enjoy the features of supercar aerodynamics along with low-emission and fuel-efficient ride. The steam turbine of the vehicle runs with a low rpm to top the vehicles batteries and power the four wheels. The motors have a regenerative mechanism to charge the batteries when the brakes are used. The water tank is mounted spirally near the rear seat and provides structure and protection to the occupants and the boiler. The vehicle requires very less fuel for long operations. It sells the energy back to the grid that can be used for powering the house when it is not on the road.

5. Helios

How about solar power for your car? This concept has been in the forefront for quite some time in the recent days. Solar powered cars promise higher speed, more range, and better performance. The concept by Kim Gu-Han from Germany is called the Helios off-road car. The car has the ability to power even your home appliances when the car is not in use. The concept is inspired from the animal kingdom for its special extendable panel design. Though you may not wish to travel around in a car with horns, the best thing is that the extendable panels can be folded and used according to the requirement. When the car is not in use, it can extend the panels, absorb sun’s energy, and power your home too. Such cars that can produce electricity for its usage and for powering houses are welcome by everyone. However, such cars come with a huge price tag, which is quite discouraging. However, if the manufacturers cut down the costs, then there is nothing more wonderful than owning such a car.
