Colored cotton without using dye! Yes, some cotton can be naturally dyed, and the interesting point is that it grows that way and does not need to be dyed. It is in the ancient Americas, “Color grown” cotton has its roots.
Weavers have been cultivating native white, tan, green, yellow, red, and brown colored cottons for thousands of years. But, most people only associate cotton with the color white because the fiber qualities of the cotton was not suited to modern textile machines.
But, it is due to the efforts of a California-based inventor, Sally Fox during the 1990s color grown cotton was back in production. She cultivated long fiber colored cotton, and created her own patented cotton called “Fox Fibre”. Most Fox Fibre is grown organically (called Fox Fibre Colorganic), requiring minimal processing. It is because it does not need to be dyed. Including clothing, bedding and furniture, it is used in a wide variety of products today. Thanks to Sally Fox.
