South India’s Dakshina Kannada district has come up with all the pleasant surprises for you. The first of its kind, it is a built with all cost effective building technologies. No you are guessing them wrong – it is not concrete, nor clay nor mud! The magnificent and aesthetically beautiful houses are made of iron ore tailing giving birth to yet cost effective, eco friendly houses. It is within the campus of the Dakshina Kannada Nirmiti Kendra in Suratkal, the first of such houses has been constructed.

The entire construction needed only Rs 2,56,000 and the best part of its contribution towards the environment is that it used no wood. Thanks to Kalbavi Rajendra Rao, the project director of the center for the cheap and sustainable construction.
