Trinity: Super-efficient plug-in hybrid car

Yet another hybrid vehicle arrives on the scene- Trinity. The vehicle is a highly fuel-efficient plug-in one. Engineering students at the University of California unveiled the car yesterday.

Powered by electric motors, Trinity is a 2006 model Chevy Equinox SUV. A small internal combustion engine also poweres the vehicle. And, the engine can run both on gasoline and ethanol.

While driving at low speeds, especially for a range of up to 40 miles, the electric motors and batteries power it. Moreover, for longer journeys and highway driving, the gas engine provides with the additional power.

Another additional advantage of Trinity over other hybrids currently available on the market — such as the Toyota Prius – is that, you can recharge its batteries from a domestic power supply. This allows the vehicle to go cheap off-peak with electricity. Reducing fuel consumption and emissions, this allows the vehicle to run exclusively on electric power, when you are tripping around town.
