Low water-consuming toilets to help solve Beijing drought

for the beijing olympics

When the world says, “Charity begins at home”, Beijing residents say, “water-saving begins from the toilet”. The driest major city in the world, Beijing is facing a severe water shortage problem in the city. Concerned, perhaps on the lines of this crisis, the Saving Water Toilet Exhibition for Beijing Olympics Gymnasium displayed a range of prototype urinals, bowls, and traditional Asian crouching platforms. All these innovative toilets aim to provide the environment with a more positive impact.

These models are a real relief-rendering solution to Beijing residents, as according to a report last month, there would be severe water shortages during the 2008 Olympics, provided the current levels of consumption are not brought under control.

Zheng Qing Zhan, manager of Kuge bathroomware said,

This toilet saves water… Most modern toilets use six litres of water per flush, while this uses a maximum of 3.8 litres and as little as 2.6 litres.
