A new car floor mat has been made from plant-based resin polylactic acid and nylon fibers. The mat, made to be a high-durable one, has been developed by Mitsubishi Motors, in cooperation with Toray Industries, Inc.
This new and innovative, eco-friendly floor mat will be debuting in a Mitsubishi Motors model later this year. The plant-based resin used does not add to the atmospheric carbon dioxide. This resin uses lactic acid produced through the fermentation of sugar extracted from sugar cane or corn for its production.
The question of durability will surely come in – so the Mitsubishi Motors has enhanced the durability of the material by adding a reforming agent and nylon fibers, which increases its resistance to light and wear.
