By 2012, inefficient bulbs are to disappear from Canada, and will be replaced by energy efficient lighting by the year end. For making this move successful, the federal government will, on one hand, develop national standards for the efficient lighting, banning the inefficient ones on the other. The Natural Resources Minister Gary Lunn, by announcing this has introduced Canada as an energy efficiency-conscious country.
At a news conference in Ottawa, Lunn said,
I’m very pleased to announce today that Canada is stepping up once again and introducing national standards for energy efficiency in lighting.
This banning will mean a reduction of greenhouse gases by more than six million tonnes every year! That’s a real effective move towards a green world. This will also save Canadians about $50 on their electricity bills.
Thanks to the government’s new climate change plan under which, the proposal to ban incandescent light bulbs was announced. The plan has been unveiled today.
This move would surely help Canada meet the much-anticipated greenhouse gas emission targets easily and to a large extent.
