Wave-powered catamaran that moves ‘kicking like a dolphin’

its first transpacific voyage 9

Ah! Here is yet another nature-propelled vehicle to serve the environment in return. A catamaran becomes the world’s first-ever ocean-going voyage, which is powered by ‘wave’.

Yes, inspired by the way dolphins kick to move forward, the catamaran can set voyage for thousands of miles, and that too, without worrying about power sources like wind. Next year, the all-aluminum Suntory Mermaid II will be journeying 3,750 miles from Hawaii to the Kii peninsula, western Japan.

Thanks to the Japanese solo yachtsman, Kenichi Horie for coming up with this innovative environment-friendly catamaran, which doesn’t have to wait for the winds to sweep across the seas for helping it to sail.

The navigational equipments, radar and appliances of the catamaran are powered by the solar panel fitted on it. The panels can produce enough electricity to power radio and play DVDs.
