Go ‘green’ on wheels with Enertia!

It’s time to discuss the future of your automobiles. The day your car or bike stops running on regular fuels like petrol and diesel, what would you do? Do not tax your mind, we do that for you (although we may not necessarily like it). Already we have an alternative for you that not only helps you to commute but also saves your fuel expenses and keeps you going green too.

Brammo motor sports – a company based in Oregon – has taken wraps off the world’s first zero-emissions battery-powered plug-in electric motorcycle dubbed Enertia. A perfect commuter machine built with the same philosophy as the Ariel Atom (from the same company.)

Using a rigid light weight carbon fiber chassis to contain the battery pack (and most of the weight), a small electric motor is all that’s required to see the Enertia accelerate up to a top speed of 50 mph (80 kph)- all that’s needed for a trip around town.

The chassis integrates six Valence lithium-phosphate batteries in a 3.1 kWh battery pack that powers a permanent magnet DC pancake motor. Range is 45 miles (72.4 km) while a full recharge requires 3 hours. This range will handle the average United States commute of 29 miles a day, says Craig Bramscher, Brammo chief executive officer. Bramscher further adds:

We believe consumers are eager to adopt vehicles that have a fraction of the carbon footprint of a today’s cars. Our Enertia electric motorcycle empowers people to make this choice today.

In terms of environmental credibility, the bike itself has no emissions to speak of – so you can ride it around indoors if you like. In the event that you run out of power, it is easy to haul around as it weighs in at just 275 lbs.

Brammo has essentially created an elite commuter class machine, and grabbed a significant slice of recognition into the bargain. The standard edition will sell for $11,995 and is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of the next year.
