Did you know that our housesemit enough air pollution to be a concern for the environmentalists.
A major contributor to this is central heating and air conditioning in our homes.
An eco friendly insulating material made from wool, completely recycled is now available in the markets to lower electricity consumption in both winters and summers.
About 10% of the heating lost is through floors, walls contribute to 24% and an alarming 40% is lost through the ceiling.
The wool, a natural insulator, creates a thermal barrier against the sun in the summers and also keeps the heat inside in winters.
One can well imagine how much that would cut on the bills!
A cost effective product, the material used is the fiber acquired from manufacturers of woolen products, mainly the carpet manufacturers. This is not only eco frienfly but also non toxic in nature. Only less than 1% of the non insulation product goes to landfill. It is 100% recycle wool and is grey in colour. However an option of natural white wool is also available.
Eco insulation using wool can be used in the whole house except for high humidity areas such as swimming pool halls and saunas.
It is non- irritant, non-allergenic, non-toxic and odourless. And can easily run for 50 years with minimal maintenance.
Best installed within six months of manufacture, it gives maximum insulation when dry.
The idea accidentally stuck upon in late 1990’s when a couple in New Zealand was trying to insulate the ceiling of a spare room by blowing loose wool.
They realized that instead of blowing wool making it into thermal blankets would work better.
The product, used for both private households and commercial buildings, is soon catching up in both local and international market.
