Solar power, the answer for all our prayers

The rate at which fossil fuels are getting depleted, it is imperative that we look at other sources for our energy needs. Solar power is the answer, after all the sun is always there for us isn’t it? Believe me, if it stops being there, then we will too!

What is solar power? It is the flow of energy from the sun. Heat and light are the primary forms of solar power. Technologies that convert sunlight into electricity or mechanical power are specifically known as solar power.

Unlike oil, solar power has numerous advantages, such as:

• It is a renewable energy source. The most important advantage, I would say. In fact nowadays we can even store solar power, so that our energy needs are fulfilled even on the days when the sun is not there. Oil unfortunately is not renewable, once it is finished it is gone…we would need to find more of it.

• Since solar energy is non-polluting, it does not add to the earth’s global warming in any way. Burning oil on the other hand releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases and carcinogens into the air.

• Solar cells are whisper quiet, they can make solar energy from the sun without even making a peep! We definitely cannot attribute the same quality to fossil fuels.

• Solar cells are low maintenance, easy to install (you don’t need to worry about cumbersome wires), and the best part is they last for a long time.

There is one disadvantage though with regard to solar power, and that is, the solar power panels are very expensive to install. But, fortunately this is just a one time expense, because over a period of time you will be able to save substantial amount of money.

Personally, I would say this is a very small disadvantage, because, not only is solar power the best possible answer to meet our growing energy needs, it is an environment friendly way to do so too.
