A real tree is in the making to measure how energy efficient you are. And don’t you worry it doesn’t require your love, affection and time in this fast paced life. It is there to become a member of your house, to tell you in black and white about your energy consumptions and recycling.
One of the 34 finalists in Microsoft’s something PC design competition, this is a green concept by Ben Arent that keeps a close watch on the in house energy usage.
Devices that run on energy need to be connected to the energy tree so that the inbuilt monitor can track and calculate the energy consumptions in the house. The control panel also turns off the devices connected to it when they are not in use.
Energy used in heating and cooling the house can also be calculated using a separate measurement.
According to the monitoring, if the power is used efficiently in the house, then the energy tree would spread nutrients and water for the real tree to flourish. But if it finds that the energy use is inefficient, it would deprive the real tree of the nutrients and water and the real tree would die.
A smart an innovative idea, if becomes a reality would be a defining piece of technology in this 21st century.
