In order to fulfill all the standards and certification of LEED, Green Mountain Power has decided to feature all the environmental friendly designs and techniques. Its new center is developing in West Minister.
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating officer of Green Mountain Power, Mary Powell has stated,
“Designing and constructing buildings so that they are highly energy efficient as well as being comfortable and healthy for employees makes good business sense, while it provides a much improved workspace for our employees, and we believe that it is important to invest in environmentally strong practices that reinforce our commitment to the environment.”
In order to replace the Bellows Falls Service Center and renovate their older building in West Minister, Green Mountain has started construction from September 25 and expecting it to finish by the next year. LEED, The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™, has been accepted nationally for being a benchmark in design, construction and functional green buildings. Its major areas of human and environmental health comprises of sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
It has also incorporated various techniques to divert the demolition waste by reusing and recycling. Other key highlights are energy efficient lighting occupancy sensors etc. Most of the materials used are environment friendly.
Ms Powell also stated that,
“ We hope to achieve the LEED certification because the third party verification helps ensure that we follow exacting standards to bring to the community a building that reflects Vermont values.”
