New monitor promises power savings

Recently, a Danish company has found way to reduce electricity bills along with significant power saving. A computerized electricity monitor, Electronic Housekeeper by Syd Energy is out to control the consumption of energy. It will include all home appliances, such as heating and cooling systems.

This will effectively cut consumer’s electricity bills. Ebbe Seligmann, managing director of Syd Energy stated that, “During the course of a day, energy prices can swing by as much as 50 percent,” he further added, “when the currents are cheapest a kilowatt costs around DKK 1.20 (EUR 0.16), while it costs around DKK 1.80 (EUR 0.24) at its most expensive.”

This immense price fluctuation is due to churning of turbines on wind free days. Energi Horsens and NRGI are also planning to invest in this latest invention. Danish Electricity Saving Trust has estimated that it will save approximately DKK 2400 per family annually.

Other key highlights of Electronic Housekeeper are mp3 player and e-mail service. It costs around DKK4000. As other energy companies are investing into this invention, reduction of cost will surely occur.

According to Seligmann, “We haven’t yet decided on a permanent model, but it’s likely that our customers can get a rebate so that they end up paying around half the original sales price.”
