Dyson Airblade: Shaving the water off your hands!

airblade

I have never been much of a fan of convections & I maintain that they are just there mostly to make your life miserable. When there is an easier way out & if it hurts none, then why I am not supposed to use it? Beats me. Something else that I never understood was the obsession with hand dryers. I really don’t care where they are placed, they are a drag. Why am I supposed to wait for hot air out of a machine to clean my hands of water, when I can just wipe it off on my pants or use a hankey? People want to use tissue paper, but that would be wastage of paper.

A normal hand dryer works by heating up the air & using it to evaporate the moisture off of your hands. But it uses huge amount of energy to do so. Tissue paper usage means encouraging another tree to be chopped off for no reason. That is why Dyson has come up with Airblade. The company claims that this machine saves about 80% of the energy compared to a normal hand dryer. It works on a totally different principle & hence is able to save the energy.

While normal hand dryers have to heat up air & use it to dry the hands, Dyson’s Airblade creates air at 0.3mm gap along its 230mm width at a velocity of 400 mph! Yes, 400 mph. This acts as a blade that shaves off your beard, but obviously would never cut & be only sufficient to clear the moisture off of your hands. The machine has its own motor that is energy efficient & runs faster than a F1 engine! It is 98% energy saving device & is a great substitute for normal hand dryers.

Fine, so the device is better than you normal hand dryer by a mile. But is not rubbing your hands on your trousers a lot better? It’s not like you are going to drench it. What happened to good old fashioned hankeys? I don’t know; let’s not make too much fuss about a hand dryer. I’m not keeping my hands inside anything named “Blade” & with wind at 400mph. what if it blows away my fingers? (I’m brave, just circumspect)
