Windspire: The household turbine from Mariah Power

windspire

Recent years have witnessed the discovery of several mini-wind turbines, which, unfortunately, have not been of much use. However, the household Windspire turbine from Mariah Power seems promising.

The Windspire turbine has a propeller-free vertical-axis design, and can generate (in about 11mph wind conditions on an average) 1800 kilowatt hours of power every year. On an average, the power generated by this turbine can take care of around 25% of the typical energy requirements of a household. If one is energy-efficient, he/she can indeed benefit more from the turbine.

This turbine has a radius of two feet, and is 30 feet tall (adhering to the typical residential zoning restrictions). As per guidelines, Windspire turbines are to be installed at relatively windy places, taking up about half an acre of land.

The Windspire household turbine sports a fully integrated, plug-and-produce design and has multiple useful features, including a high-efficiency generator, wireless performance monitor and integrated inverter. The turbine’s design ensures that it can be installed easily and indeed, cheaply (with an estimated cost of $1000 for installation). A slow speed giromill rotor is also provided, to ensure safety and durability, and also to make sure that the turbine operates with very little noise indeed.

The turbine, connected to the power supply of a household, can run the electric meter backwards at times, due to the former’s capacity to offset the use of electricity. The turbine can even be made to resemble a piece of functional art by painting it according to the surroundings. The Windspire Household turbine has recently cleared the ETL safety certification and is expected to be available by spring this year. This powerful, durable and extremely useful household turbine has been priced at $3995.
