Philips creates ‘green art’ on a glowing low energy light canvas

Even as a little kid my dad always used to talk about how the brand of ‘Philips’ was something that was very reliable and very unique when it came to lighting. That is not to say anything but the simple fact that the company has always been associated with consumer interest and product quality. It works on the simplest principle of marketing that ‘brand loyalty’ is very essential. They have created this by not just the work they put in to their production but also off late the eco standards they are dishing out in their gadgets.

Just a couple of months ago we talked about Philips Ambilight in detail and how it has delightful the experience was. The Ambilight is a wonderful use of LED technology that saves immense amount of energy and gives us with a wonderful green alternative for the future. None in our own electronic labs told us in college that we could do so much with them. Once again, Philips has really immersed itself in low-energy light technology to create pretty, soothing environments. The company has now expanded that to provide an interactive light display for the brand new Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, Arkansas.

This installation, displayed in the Women’s and Children’s waiting area, is a 14-ft long, 6ft-high canvas that uses touchscreen technology to animate 1,420 LEDs. So basically you can play with the lights as you wait in the corridor. Each ‘painting’ a visitor produces last for a few minutes before fading away, and up to six ‘artists’ can make their mark at a time. Now this is probably the most energy conserving canvas ever in human history. Despite the apparent power of the canvas, it only uses the same amount of daily energy as a toaster! So not only is Philips now saving the planet’s energy sources, but also is encouraging budding artists.
