Mobile technology is spreading at the rate of knots across the planet. Mobiles have grown from being a luxury to an absolute necessity. They have connected the globe like never before. Sure, they give you the few odd frustrating moments with both busy network connections and at times a false bill of two. To say that wireless communication has grown beyond all imagination would also be a gross understatement in itself. But there have also been growing concerns about how this technology is lacking in safety standards and is over exposing people to harmful radiation.

To exactly answer those eco-problems posed by mobiles across the planet, “Gigaset Eco Visions” Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices (SHC) has taken a further step forward in realizing their vision of stylish and environmental-friendly cordless phones of superior quality. The first two concept phones out of this series, “Solar” and “Leaf”, were introduced at the Gigaset Press Day 2008 in Windsor. The phones have been engineered to be eco-friendly in terms of design, technology, materials, and characteristics throughout the entire product lifecycle; starting from the manufacturing to the recycling.

The Gigaset Eco Visions Leaf and Solar are made of recyclable raw materials, such as eco-plastic and liquid wood. This makes them both eco-friendlies, while the manufacture process in on and also while disposal. Sun-light is used as a natural energy source for handsets. An eco-index provides the “nutritional facts” regarding the environmental-friendliness of each phone. This includes the percentage of organic materials and number of components used at disassembly, the energy consumption and emissions in use and production as well as the how recyclable each product is. Both models include Organic light-emitting diode technology, a highly efficient, low-energy display technology with brilliant clarity. So basically the phones are a complete eco package.

It is the design of ‘Leaf’ that really looks appealing, stylish and cool. I think the phone would be good for both kids and women. It has that soft and bright tinge to it along with a very unique and wonderfully crafted design. It is so identical to a leaf that if you loose it in a park next spring, you will almost not be able to find it just because it looks so much like a real leaf. I though like ‘Solar’ as it has a very strong and cool look to it. It looks more like a ‘guy phone’ and it has a cool touchpad too. The phone is obviously priced a bit high, but with that designing and all the eco-perks attached to it, it is sure worth the price tag. A third in the series ‘Stone’ will be released later this year and expect a surprise or two with it too!
