Shattering the popular myth which tags eco-friendly housing as a privileged of the elite few, the Osceola County Habitat for Humanity used recycled parts to build a new, eco-friendly house that could easily be afforded by the low-income population. The ‘blitz build’ was completed by volunteers with help from the future homeowner in just two weeks. Featuring a metal roof and frames, tinted windows and large overhangs that prevent the sun from going into the windows thus cutting down air-conditioning costs, concrete siding and steel doors that need little to no maintenance, the blitz build provides an ideal housing solution for families just getting started and should make an interesting case for future housing projects after it is officially dedicated on April 5.
