DIY – A rainy day for your plants everyday with Rain Barrel

rain barrel VXBY3 5784Though it’s a bit too early to think about rains but then its better to well equipped with your gears for the shower season. And when I say gears, I don’t mean about your umbrellas and rain wears. It’s the conservation of rain water that I am implying to. Rain barrels, true their name, are barrels to collect rain water. Collected rain water is especially useful to water your garden, especially in time of water shortages. And you don’t need to worry about stretching your monthly budget on it. This DIY project by Bill Volk on DIY Life will cost not more then $20 (that’s what he paid) for a barrel plus about $10 – $ 20 for other materials. According to him the things you need to look out for while buying a barrel is that it should be food grade, plastic, have a removable top, be reasonably attractive and not cost a “bazillion dollars.” What out for a step by step guide here and make a Rain Barrel for your back deck too.

Bill has been luckier because the barrel he set up is on his deck, the roof of which is directly under his bathroom window. So he can dump shower water out the window, where it goes onto the roof, though the gutter system, and into the barrel. Now that’s getting the best out of it. So start hunting for an empty barrel…..I’m sure you’ll get a reasonable one till the rains hit your part of planet.
