So you want plants but don’t have the good fortune of having a real apartment with real sunlight? Then these cybernetic plants with surgically implanted LEDs giving them all the light they want to photosynthesize are just tailor-made for you, pun intended! Yeah, the project is the brainchild of one Mr. Ryan Wolfe who apparently likes to play god to a bunch of hapless submissive plants who can’t bite his head off for doctoring them to respond to artificial light.
Amusingly enough, the project is called “Study for Lot from Within” which actually doesn’t make any sense and is perhaps meant to take the Mickey out of anybody who tries to find logic of trying to cultivate plants in a place where you’ve got no light. But in case you got a great deal on the local coal mine and found all those dark walls 2 miles inside the earth a little too depressing without any decorations, then these wall-hanging plants with LED implants ought to cheer up your daily minimum wagers like talk of the illusive bonus you’ve been promising them for the last three years.
The LEDs are even programmed to dim and light up at strategic times to simulate sunrise and sunset for the plants. How, er, thoughtful of the designer isn’t it? Catch the “Study” at the Dam, Stuhltrager Gallery in Brooklyn, New York with more of Mr. Wolfe’s innovative works.
