We have come across boats made from recycled plastic bottles but a real sailing boat made of juice cartons is fresh news. A young 22 year old chap from Britain has embarked on a task to travel 4,000miles (about 6,400km) down a river on a boat made out of juice cartons. It’s not some small insignificant silent river that he intends to step on. He has set his eyes on the longest river in the US, Mississippi, after being inspired by the paper folding art of origami. And it’s not the first time that Rhys Jones dares to do something different. This adventurer is the youngest person to climb the seven highest summits on each of the seven continents. He has decided to build a 12 foot raft with a wooden cabin and a paper hull lined with juice cartons and sail 3700 miles down one of the most treacherous rivers in the world. Along with his father he intends to set sail this weekend on what will undoubtedly be a 3-4 month trip down the river. In the end, Rhys and his father hope to recycle the boat and raise awareness about conserving the Earth’s natural resources.
