EcoFactor: Power efficient storage device.

The latest addition to the line of storage devices featuring Neil Poulton’s design is the leading external storage manufacturer LaCie‘s Quadra 4-bay RAID system. According to the company, this unit can be stacked or chained to quadruple the potential storage capacity and increase the transfer speeds to 600 MB per second. The four drive bays can hot-swap drive mechanisms.

The 4Big Quadra supports eSATA, FireWire 400/800 or USB 2.0 connections. The company claims burst transfer rates of 200-230MB/s using eSATA 3Gbits and RAID 0, while creating 25 to 29dBA operating noise. It includes software like Genie or Intego Backup Manager Pro for Windows or Mac, along with cables for all connection types, power supply, and LaCie Utilities CD-ROM. Not just this, the company claims that this system is more energy-efficient than “traditional” RAID towers, using 30 to 80 percent less energy along with a cooling system that’s almost 50 percent quieter. The product is available in 2TB, 4TB, or 6TB capacities, for $849, $1300, or $1749, and will make its debut in the market by next month.

The Dark Side:
This device offers a substantial amount of eco-friendliness with various other benefits in comparison to its competitors. There is no hitch, except for the fact that this system makes us thirsty for more such highly efficient green products in the market.
