Compost bins do a wonderful job is encouraging people to recycle and save the environment. However, the major drawback of compost bins it the foul odor that fumes into the kitchen due to the composting process. The SmellFree Compost Bin designed by Joe Brunton makes sure that the only odor present in the kitchen is just of the food you are cooking.
Compost bins emit foul odors because of the wet compost and high nitrogen and ammonia levels in it. The SmellFree Compost Bin will come with carbon filters that not only dry the waste but also lower the nitrogen levels inside it. These filters are placed in the airing slots of the sides of the bin. This dual-filter technology increases the amount of oxygen entering the bin. The filters need to be changed every 5-6 months as the buildup of ammonia particles inside them blocks the entry of oxygen, which may allow ammonia to leak into the kitchen.
The Dark Side:
The compost bin is too small to be used on daily basis. We are skeptical about the designer’s claims that the compost bin would be able to handle a week’s waste.
