Eco Factor: Watch charged with kinetic energy lowers carbon footprint with a built-in CO2 scrubber.
Industrial designer David Keith, along with his team of researchers, has designed a stylish watch that does more than just tell you the time. The watch powered by the movement of the hand is designed with a built-in CO2 scrubber that tries to make you a carbon neutral person, by continuously removing carbon dioxide from the air surrounding you.
The eCO2 captures carbon dioxide through the CO2 scrubber and clean air is then released through the exhaust vent provided. To keep the electronics powered up, the watch relies on micro generators to harness the energy of movement. The interface displays the amount of CO2 removed, the amount of juice left in its batteries, and of course time.
The Dark Side:
The technology behind the watch is nothing new and the watch suffers from drawbacks already associated with CO2 scrubbers. A single watch won’t do much good and it will take people away from the “Go-Green” movement, following which is an utmost necessity in today’s world.
