Eco Factor: Energy-efficient server from VIA.
Servers, the backbone of today’s internet-dependent world, are getting more powerful and robust with every new launch. However, this robustness and power come at the huge cost of electricity. VIA has tried to change the conception of more power means more electricity, with a new launch dubbed the VIA NSR7800.
The 2U rack server comes with eight 3.5-inch SATA-II drive bays capable of handling up to 16TB of storage with hot-swap hardware support. Integrated with dual gigabit LAN, the server is claimed to consume at least 50% less electricity than other products on the market today.
The Dark Side:
Energy-efficiency in machines is something we at EcoFriend always praise. If this new server can actually do what is being claimed by VIA and that too without much extra cost, it should find a large number of buyers.
