Eco Factor: Solar energy generating towers.
Catellus Development Group has started constructing the “Sunflowers – A garden of Energy,” which is a solar energy generating system developed by Massachusetts-based artists Mags Harries and Lajos Hader. According to its name the solar energy generators are designed in the shape of sunflowers, which will not only prove great for the environment but also for the surroundings, owing to its design.
The system is essentially a small array of solar cells mounted on the top of 16-foot tall metal sculptures. The installation will carry about 15-20 such towers that collectively could generate about 30 KW of electricity, most of which will be sold back to the grid, and the rest would be used to illuminate the towers. The architects constructing the installation state that it should start generating solar electricity by summer.
The Dark Side:
The height of the towers is not as high as one would really want, especially if there are trees in the towers’ immediate vicinity.
